Lana Smiljanic: My residency in Radiation Oncology has been a life-changing journey

Lana Smiljanic, Former Radiation Oncology Resident at Agostino Gemelli University Policlinic, posted on LinkedIn:

“And just like that, my residency in Radiation Oncology has come to an end. If there’s anything I hate, it’s sounding sleazy, but it truly has been a life-changing journey – one that challenged me, shaped me, and introduced me to some of the most incredible people I could have hoped for.

Professor Maria Antonietta Gambacorta and Dr. Luca Boldrini – I cannot thank you enough. For your guidance, for pushing me to grow, and for believing in me. I’ll always carry the lessons you’ve taught me, and I will never forget how much you’ve done to help me take my first steps in this field.

To my MR-linac teammates, with whom I’ve had the privilege of working on my thesis project – Angela Romano, Claudio Votta, Giorgio Ventura, Giuditta Valentina Chiloiro, Giulia Panza, Lorenzo Placidi and Matteo Nardini. You are truly one of the most unique and talented teams out there. It’s been an honor to work alongside you, learn from you, and be part of such a brilliant group. I can’t wait to see the heights you’ll continue to reach!

To my colleagues and friends at Gemelli ART – thank you for sharing some of the most intense and rewarding moments of my life. And, of course, for the memes that got us through it all.

And finally, to my family and friends back in Serbia, who have been tirelessly cheering me on from hundreds of kilometers away. None of this would have been possible without you.

I feel incredibly lucky to have found my calling in radiation oncology – and even more so to have discovered it here in Rome, surrounded by such extraordinary people.

And now – onwards and upwards!”
