Adele Merritt Appointed NIH Chief Information Officer: A Leader in IT Modernization and Cybersecurity
Adele Merritt was elected as NIH’s Chief Information Officer.
Adele Merritt is a distinguished leader in the field of information technology and cybersecurity, currently serving as the Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer (IC CIO) at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).
In this role, she has been at the forefront of modernizing the IC’s IT infrastructure, driving cloud adoption, enhancing cybersecurity, and fostering advanced analytics to improve intelligence operations.
Adele’s visionary leadership has significantly shaped the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve intelligence sharing and operational efficiency across the U.S. federal government.
Her efforts have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 Federal Leadership Award in the FedScoop50 Awards and the Cybersecurity Visionary recognition in the CyberScoop50 Awards.
An accomplished public speaker, Adele is widely recognized for her insights on IT modernization, cybersecurity, and the future of technology governance.

A graduate of Harvard University as a National Security Fellow and holder of a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island, Adele combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision to drive meaningful change in government technology.
