Sendurai Mani: How a Librarian Changed the Course of My Life?
Sendurai Mani, Professor of Medicine specializing in Cancer Biology at Brown University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“How a Librarian Changed the Course of My Life?
As a Master’s student at Madurai Kamaraj University, I couldn’t afford all the books I needed, and studying in my dorm was challenging because of the constant noise from parties.
This drove me to spend most of my time in the library. However, with the library closing at 10 PM, balancing lab work and classes left me wishing for just a bit more time—ideally, until midnight.
One evening, I was fortunate to meet an incredible librarian, Mr. Rajendran, who noticed my dedication. For reasons I never fully understood, he decided to help.
He would close the library to everyone else but allowed me to stay until midnight to study undisturbed. Even more, he would bring tea and snacks from his home, making sure I stayed awake and nourished.
His kindness and generosity had a lasting impact on my journey, and I am deeply grateful for his support. Sometimes, the right people appear at just the right time, reminding us of the profound power of generosity.
Though I know he is no longer with us, I find myself thanking him often and his impact lives on.”
