Susie Stanway: Reflecting on the 6th London Global Cancer Week
Susie Stanway, Co-Founder of UK Global Cancer Network, shared on LinkedIn:
“Reflecting on the 6th London Global Cancer Week earlier this month we are most grateful to the international array of multidisciplinary hosts who held over 40 sessions between them highlighting issues pertinent to global cancer control. There was representation from organisations large and small, covering diverse domains such as financing, the nexus of climate change and cancer, learnings to be shared from those managing cancer in humanitarian settings and planning the first World Radiotherapy Awareness Day.
There were meetings in-person, hybrid and virtual, which culminated in a full day at the House of Commons focussing on cancer disparities organised by Dr Olubukola Ayodele and her team. Sessions during The Week were recorded and will be freely available on London Global Cancer Week website soon.
I thank Katie Wakeham and the London Global Cancer Week steering group whose expert guidance, connections and actions lead to such a diverse and productive week (CS Pramesh, Miriam Mutebi, Mark P. Lythgoe, Jenna Bhimani, Eduardo Cazap, Neil Ranasinghe, Myrna Abi Abdallah Doumit, Christopher Jackson, Jean-Marc Bourque, Xiaoling Li, Allison Landman).
We thank those whose (unrestricted) support has enabled The Week to happen Lancet oncology, Roche, Pfizer Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
We thank the management group who professionally managed the co-ordination of The Week Heather Mei Lan Ee, Emma-Jayne King, Simon Middleton.
Finally, we thank Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus DG at World Health Organization for his words and for the support from Baroness Scotland SG at The Commonwealth.
For key take-aways from individual sessions please follow London Global Cancer Week. The Week has demonstrated the energy, momentum, commitment and agency from so many around the world to improve cancer care outcomes. It is by coming together and collaborating as an international community that accessible, evidence-based, quality cancer care of value for all, across the continuum will become a reality.”
