Suzanne Cole – Candidate for ASCO Nominating Committee

Suzanne Cole has been nominated as Designated Community Oncologist Candidate Member Candidate of the nomination committee for ASCO.

The ASCO Nominating Committee has selected 13 distinguished members as candidates for leadership positions within the Society.

ASCO encourages all eligible members to vote for the new leaders of the Society.
Eligible members include those holding a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Science, Doctor of Nursing Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or an equivalent doctoral-level degree recognized by the Society and the Association, and who are in good standing as of October 14, 2024. Voting in the ASCO Election will earn eligible members a FASCO point.

The voting period ends on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. All ballots, whether submitted online or by paper, must be received by this deadline.

Suzanne Cole, MD, FACP, FASCO is the Medical Director at the UTSW Simmons Cancer Center.

The Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) distinction recognizes members for their volunteer engagement, and commitment to ASCO.

Dr. Suzanne Cole is the Medical Director of the Community Oncology Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medically Centre.

Dr. Cole founded the Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary City-Wide Case Conference in Oklahoma City from 2014 to 2018.

Dr. Cole has also played a significant role in professional organizations, particularly within the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

From 2017 to 2021, she chaired the ASCO Practice Guidelines Implementation Network, where she worked to translate clinical research into actionable guidelines to improve patient care across the country.

Additionally, she chaired the Women’s Networking Center and the Annual Meeting Education Program Committee at ASCO, advocating for gender equity and professional development opportunities for women in oncology.

Dr. Cole has chaired several high-profile national clinical trials, including those through the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group and the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG).

Dr. Suzanne Cole has also been an active member of several professional organizations throughout her career, including the American Society of Hematology (2007-Present) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), where she became a Fellow in 2023.

She was also a member of the Oklahoma Society of Clinical Oncology (2014-2018) and the Oklahoma Chapter of the American College of Physicians (2015-2018).

Dr. Cole has contributed to cancer research as a member of the SWOG Cancer Research Group (2017-2022) and continues her involvement with the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group (2018-Present).

Education

Dr. Suzanne Cole graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1999, earning both a Bachelor of Arts in Art & Performance (Modern Dance) and a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

She then went on to earn her MD from UT Southwestern Medical School in 2003. In 2023, Dr. Cole completed a Master of Arts in Humanities from California State University Northridge, graduating with Distinction.
