Carmen Monge-Montero: Overcoming Cancer Without Discrimination – Opinion piece with Luis Fernando Solís Calvo

Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and patient advocate with Youth Cancer Europe, shared on LinkedIn:

“Dear Network,

I am happy to share that I recently co-authored an opinion piece with Luis Fernando Solís Calvo from the Foro Permanente de Cáncer en Costa Rica, de la Universidad de Costa Rica UCR. Our article, titled ‘Superar el cáncer sin discriminación’ (Overcoming Cancer Without Discrimination), was published in the newspaper La Nación – Costa Rica.

In this opinion letter in Spanish, we advocate for the implementation of the Right to Be Forgotten Law in Costa Rica, which would help cancer survivors rebuild their lives without the economic and social barriers often associated with a cancer diagnosis. This law is especially important for young cancer survivors, who deserve the chance to pursue their dreams without facing unnecessary discrimination in accessing loans, insurance, and employment.

Read the full article here to learn more about how this legislation could positively impact thousands of lives and how it has affected many people with a lived experience in Europe and Latin America.

Thank you to everyone supporting this cause, especially to Erick Róvira, who presented his testimony, and to those who believe in a more inclusive future for all cancer survivors!”
