Movember is a month long campaign to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues.
I decided to pay attention to prostate cancer this Movember.
What is Prostate Cancer?
Prostate cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow in the prostate gland, affecting men’s urinary and reproductive health.
Signs and Symptoms:
– Increased urination frequency
– Weak or interrupted flow
– Painful urination
– Blood in urine or semen
– Painful ejaculation
– Erectile dysfunction
Screening Tests:
– Prostate-Specific Antigen(PSA) Test
– Digital Rectal Exam(DRE)
– Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging(mpMRI)
What to Expect:
– Discuss family history and risk factors with your doctor.
– Get screened annually if:
– 40+ years old
– High PSA level
– Family history of prostate cancer.
– Follow-up tests and biopsies, if results are abnormal.
Screening Frequency:
– 40-69 years old: Annual screening.
– 70+ years old: Consult a doctor for a personalized screening schedule.
Except otherwise stated by your physician.
