Roupen Odabashian: ChatGPT vs Claude for Cancer patients
Roupen Odabashian, Internal Medicine Physician and Hematology/Oncology Fellow at Karmanos Cancer Institute, shared a post on X:
“ChatGPT vs Claude for Cancer patients.
As an oncologist, I’m constantly surrounded by numbers and clinical trial data. One of our biggest challenges is translating that research to the bedside and explaining those numbers to patients in a way they can understand.
I’ve been experimenting with different AI tools to help me find simpler terms and explanations for my patient conversations. Recently, I’ve noticed some interesting differences when comparing Claude by Anthropic to ChatGPT by OpenAI.
Claude seems to have more artistic capabilities. When I asked Claude how to explain recurrence-free survival to a patient, it actually generated code to draw a visual aid. That really caught my attention.
While it’s easy enough to find images online, I’m interested in seeing the future possibilities of AI generating custom visuals on demand. In contrast, when I asked ChatGPT the same question, it gave me a purely text-based response.
This highlights how important it is to understand the strengths of different language models. These AI tools are meant to augment our skills, not replace us. I encourage physicians to explore these tools and discover how they might enhance their patient care.”
