Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Educating families about the early signs of childhood cancer

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu posted on LinkedIn:

“As we continue through Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I want to revisit the Information, Education, and Communication materials launched some weeks ago, created in partnership with FLAC NIGERIA, BIO Ventures for Global Health, and other dedicated collaborators. Available in five Nigerian languages—English, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and Pidgin—these resources aim to educate families about the early signs of childhood cancer and provide clear guidance on what steps to take if symptoms are detected.

In Nigeria and many LMICs, childhood cancers are often detected late, leading to survival rates below 20%, unlike in HIC where survival is above 80%. These materials are designed to help change that by raising awareness and providing crucial information in a language families can easily understand. I urge everyone to access these materials and help distribute them widely to ensure we reach as many communities as possible.

Awareness is key to ensuring that lives are saved, so if you’re interested in reproducing or distributing the assets, please contact
[email protected].”
