“This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re introducing you to Auburn!

In January 2021, she was a high school senior with everything to look forward to: prom, graduation, college. But a few months earlier, she’d also developed a series of nagging symptoms, including a strange rash and a persistent cough. One weekend, when she began experiencing agonizing chest pain, Auburn’s mom rushed her to the ER, where a series of tests revealed she had Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare blood cancer.

From then on, Auburn’s days were filled with intense pain, long drives for relentless treatments, and 17 days spent in the hospital, including six days in the ICU.

But then Auburn met radiation oncologist and Conquer Cancer-funded researcher Dr. Raymond Mailhot, whose work focuses on improving radiation treatment for pediatric patients. Working together, they settled on a new course of treatment, and, by Oct. 4, 2021, Auburn was in remission. Today, she is cancer-free!”
