Fracture risk assessment in men with prostate cancer requiring long-term ADT

“Implementation of fracture risk assessment in men with prostate cancer requiring long-term androgen deprivation therapy: a systematic scoping review using the i-PARIHS implementation framework.

Review explores the implementation of guidelines aimed at reducing fracture risk in men with Prostate Cancer (PCa) undergoing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) which increases their susceptibility to osteoporosis and fractures.

Despite international guidelines, osteoporosis remains under-diagnosed and under-treated due to barriers such as lack of knowledge, time constraints, and challenges in coordinating care between specialists and primary care.

The review, which analyzed nine studies, found improvements in fracture risk assessment through strategies like education, multidisciplinary care pathways, and point-of-care interventions.

It highlights the need for better integration of evidence-based bone health practices in PCa-ADT care and emphasizes the role of primary care clinicians in managing treatment-related bone loss.”
