Tracey O’Brien: I was honoured to be invited by Melanoma Institute Australia to the National Press Club address by Prof Richard Scolyer and Prof Georgina Long.
Tracey O’Brien, NSW Chief Cancer Officer & CEO Cancer Insitute NSW, made the following post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday I was honoured to be invited by Melanoma Institute Australia to the National Press Club address by Prof Richard Scolyer and Prof Georgina Long.
It was an inspirational and moving address about Richard’s recent devastating diagnosis of incurable brain cancer and how the pair have applied their collective world leading immunotherapy melanoma research to what is now a very personal fight against glioblastoma multiforma.
Richard has received world first experimental neoaduvant combination immunotherapy and a personalised cancer vaccine. In Richard’s words and quick wit, it was a ‘no brainier’ to challenge the status quo as this brain cancer has seen survival rates remain static and abysmal for decades.
As well as challenging the status quo, Georgina and Richard spoke passionately about the important need for greater investment in cancer clinical trials and the need to embed research into all aspects of clinical care.”
