A Reminder That Clinical Trials Don’t Just Offer Hope: They Offer the Chance to Live – Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Robin Anezin, an architect and artist in Miami, noticed what appeared to be a small burn or mole on his chest. What began as a dermatology visit quickly turned into a melanoma diagnosis.
At the urging of friends, Robin turned to our very own Dr. Jose Lutzky. Within 10 days, he learned he had stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Though he felt no symptoms, scans revealed the cancer had spread to his liver.
Robin was connected with clinical research nurse Julio Grimaldo, who introduced him to a combination immunotherapy clinical trial designed to change outcomes for people with advanced melanoma. Without hesitation, Robin enrolled the very next day.
Just 2–3 months into treatment, the melanoma disappeared. His liver lesion shrank from 2.4 mm to just 0.4 mm – now only scar tissue remains.
Today, Robin is off treatment and thriving physically, professionally and creatively under continued monitoring. His journey is a powerful testament to precision medicine, the impact of compassionate care and the courage to say yes. A reminder that clinical trials don’t just offer hope – they offer the chance to live.”
