Udhayvir Grewal: Another day, another interesting NET paper

Udhayvir Grewal, Resident Physician at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academy medical centre, shared an article by Antongiulio Faggiano on X:

“Another day, another interesting NET paper Statins and NET outcomes!!

Retrospective analysis, >400 patients Median PFS was 87 months overall, 124 months in non-dyslipidemic patients, and 72 months in dyslipidemic patients (p = .268).

Dyslipidemic patients on statins had a significantly better median PFS (108 months) than those not on statins (26 months; p = .024). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) was also evaluated, but no significant differences were found.

Statins have direct anti-proliferative effect or is it because of alterations in TME due to inhibition of lipid biosynthesis? Likely some confounders at play too since this is a retrospective analysis!? Needs prospective validation/translational work.”

Impact of dyslipidemia and lipid-lowering therapy with statins in patients with neuroendocrine tumors.
