Matthias Berninger: Bayer’s Oncology Sustainability initiative has been recognized by the US White House Cancer Moonshot Team.

In a post on LinkedIn, Matthias Berninger, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Science and Sustainability at Bayer, shared the following:

“I am delighted to share that Bayer’s Oncology Sustainability initiative focused on creating equitable ecosystems for cancer care has been recognized by the US White House Cancer Moonshot Team. Congratulations to the team led by Chitkala Kalidas and to our external partners, National Cancer Institute of India, Duke University, National Brain Tumor Society and Open Health Systems Laboratory.

President Biden and the First Lady relaunched the White House Cancer Moonshot initiative. The initiative has the ambitious goal of preventing over 4 million cancer deaths in the United States by 2047. It also aims to improve the experience of people affected by cancer worldwide, with a special emphasis on lower- and middle-income countries. Through contributions from both the public and private sectors, the mission of granting affordable access to cancer screenings, treatments, and care for people around the world is becoming a reality. This worldwide mission is highlighted by the recent public and private sector commitments to reduce the burden of cancer in India.

Bayer’s Oncology Sustainability efforts are focused on reducing the global burden of cancer in underserved communities around the globe. These goals are consistent with those of the White House Cancer Moonshot Team. We at Bayer are proud to be actively working towards achieving these goals as a partner for the White House Cancer Moonshot Initiative.
First, Bayer is partnering with the National Cancer Institute of India to enhance access to early cancer screening. This partnership aims to reach high-risk individuals in underserved rural and urban communities across India. The primary focus is on detecting prostate, head, neck, and oral cancers in their early stages to ensure patients receive timely treatment and care.

In another significant collaboration, Bayer, the National Brain Tumor Society, Duke University, Open Health Systems Laboratories, and others, are creating a network to address pediatric brain cancer. Leveraging a digital platform that facilitates the bilateral exchange of information, this network will connect selected Indian medical centers with those in the United States. The shared goal is to improve the multidisciplinary care of patients and make informed decisions on individual treatment plans.
Through these initiatives, we are not only hoping to reduce the impact of cancer, but also striving to advance equitable access to prevention, screening, treatment, and care, thereby bringing to life, Bayer’s vision of Health for all.”
