Rasha Aboelhassan: Great idea of research comes from the greatest unmet needs

Rasha Aboelhassan, Nasser Institute Hospital, shared a LinkedIn post by The Nobel Prize and added:

Ardem Patapoutian,
I totally agree with you.
Great idea of research comes from the greatest unmet needs.
On the other hand, researchers do have many unmet needs during the time of research.

They lose the best time that can be spent with friends and family, and sometimes they lose their own jobs, health, and social communication due to being overwhelmed by their research ideas which is taking all of their time.

They can lose all this because of their research ideas that they really believe in and need to have the evidence to apply their research.
Researchers get their only happiness when they see the applied results of their research, like increasing the survival of cancer patients, getting cited by other colleges, and saving the life of a person or having The Nobel Prize.”

Quoting The Nobel Prize’s post:

” ‘I learned during my years as a trainee that science is very hard and that if your projects are ambitious many, if not most, will fail. Good ideas can come from well-researched experimental plans, but they can also come from something as vague as an informed intuition. So, it is crucial at times to trust your training and knowledge, and to take a leap.

In addition, although it is important to have bold ideas, it is equally imperative to know when to let go of the ones that aren’t working out.’

Ardem Patapoutian, who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2021 with David Julius for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.
