Felice Gorordo: Capstone to the incredibly impactful work of the Cancer Moonshot
Felice Gorordo, World Bank Executive Director for the United States (Acting), shared a post on X:
“Last week, the The White House convened leaders for a round table on the creation of the Global Cancer Fund. It was a capstone to the incredibly impactful work of the Cancer Moonshot to help end cancer as we know it.
Ten years ago, I lost my mother Martha to cancer.
In 2016, I was inspired by then-Vice President Joe Biden, example of turning ‘pain into purpose’ after the loss of his son Beau to cancer, and I joined him in his call for ‘a moonshot to cure cancer.
When Biden left office as VP, I served as an advisor to his Biden Cancer Initiative, and had the chance to work with Greg Simon, Danielle Carnival, Catharine Young, and many other colleagues and dear friends to help continue the work of the Cancer Moonshot.
In 2022, President Biden and Jill Biden reconvened us at the White House for the relaunch of the Cancer Moonshot with a renewed purpose: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50 percent over the next 25 years, and improve the experience of people and their families living with and surviving cancer— and, by doing this and more, end cancer as we know it today.
Check our progress to date.
Moving forward, the World Bank, and our partners like the World Health Organization, American Cancer Society, Bristol Myers Squibb, Pfizer Inc., Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Amazon Web Services, AACR, ASCO, Stand Up To Cancer, and many more – are deeply committed to continuing the important work of the Global Cancer Moonshot.”
