Ingrid Mayer: 2024 marks my third ASCO with AstraZeneca!

“ASCO: it’s a wrap!!!!

While I have been attending for more than 20 years, 2024 marks my third ASCO with AstraZeneca, and I’m incredibly proud of the data presented, especially in lung and breast cancers!

The results from ASCO, both from AstraZeneca and the broader oncology community, will significantly impact how we treat lung and breast cancer patients and improve their outcomes.

As for breast cancer, while survival rates for early disease have improved dramatically over the past decades, advanced disease still has poor survival rates, with only about 30% of patients living beyond five years.

We need to change this.

Our goal as a community is to improve survival rates and increase the chance of a cure across all breast cancer stages and subtypes. We’re working on redefining breast cancer treatment to benefit broader groups of patients.

By constantly learning about breast cancer biology and pushing the boundaries of science—detecting and treating cancer earlier and finding innovative, personalized treatments—we are making progress.

I am hopeful and inspired by the potential of the ASCO data to transform clinical practice and outcomes, and we may one day eliminate breast cancer as a cause of death!”
