Katie Coleman: Making videos from a patient perspective has been one of the most valuable things I’ve done
Katie Coleman, Founder of Chromophobe and Oncocytic Tumor Alliance (COA), shared a post on X/Twitter:
“Making videos describing what each procedure I’ve had was like from a patient perspective has been one of the most valuable things I’ve done. I went looking for these before every procedure I had and couldn’t find them, so I’ve always made videos to share what it was like for me afterwards.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve shared them with other patients looking for the same info and how much relief they say it brings to know what the first-hand experience was like for someone else. Things I share in these videos:
- Emotions I was feeling (nervous etc)
- What testing/preparation looked like
- How long I was in the hospital
- How pain was managed
- What any incisions looked like
- How the recovery was
- Tips that helped
Someone should make a video library of procedures and surgeries with patients sharing the experience. As a patient, I’d love to be able to search for a procedure I’m having and hear what it was like for someone else. Or even better, does this exist and I just can never find it? Other patients, would you find something like this helpful too?”
