Philip Odonkor: With various techniques for breast treatment planning, we adopted a hybrid technique for the tangential fields and 2 oblique wedged fields for the boost region
Philip Odonkor, Medical Physicist at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
“With various techniques for breast treatment planning, we adopted a hybrid technique (3DCRT + IMRT) for the tangential fields (40.5) and 2 oblique wedged fields for the boost region (50.5): and also for the supraclavicular region an Ant and a supporting post beam (0.1 weighting).
A common isocenter was used for the tangential and supraclavicular fields to prevent any hotspot at the junction.
Note: Hybrid technique in breast RT saves time in planning and provides more conformed plans and significantly reduces hot spot.
However in the absence of optimization one can employ the field-in-field (FiF) technique in breast RT.”
