Anna Cabanes: Peer support programs improve mental health and psychosocial outcomes of cancer patients
Anna Cabanes, Co-Founder of Onconecta, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent paper by Phuong Thao Le et al. published in JCO Global Oncology:
“In places where there is limited psychosocial support for cancer patients, peer support programs have shown to improve mental health and psychosocial outcomes.
In these programs, minimally trained and supervised cancer survivors act as peer mentors and provide an increased sense of social support and help new cancer patients manage their psychological symptoms, especially during the initial phase of diagnosis and beginning of treatment.

The program is currently being adapted in Rwanda by the Women’s Cancer Relief Foundation, JPBalinda and in Ethiopia at Adama Hospital by Biniyam Tefera Deressa.”
