Saeid Ghavami: An emotional day for me – my former PhD candidate, Dr. Javad Alizadeh has successfully done his oral PhD and examination and graduated

Saeid Ghavami, Scientific Advisor at Scientific Advisor Sumitomo Pharma Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Yesterday was an emotional day for me. My former PhD candidate, Dr. Javad Alizadeh has successfully done his oral PhD and examination and graduated. He joined my lab first week of February 2015 and defended first week of February 2024. He came a long way and established a high standard bar for my next graduate students. He helped me to establish my research program on lung cancer metastasis. His achievements are amazing and here are some his representative achievements:

1- 27 peer reviewed publications (9 first authors) including 4 methods (two in press) and 3 book chapters. His citation is currently >2500 with h-index 20. He published in Sci Rep, BBA-MCR, Autophagy, Mol NeuroBiol, FEBS J, EJP, Nature Com (under revision), Nature, BBA-Mol Basis Disease.

2- Recipient of 28 major awards include CIHR-Vanier Scholarship, CLA PhD studentship, Research Manitoba PhD entrance award, MMSF Excellence of Research Award, Oncology Excellence Award,

3- More than 30 oral and poster presentations in local, national and international conferences.

4- Participation in several outreach activities for cancer awareness to the society, and fundraising activity for cancer research

4- Co-mentoring of my summer undergraduate students (5 students)

5- Having a small operating grant as PI

I am confident on his future success and wishing him all the best.
Thanks to his amazing committee members and co-supervisor (Dr. Adrian West who played amazing role in his success (Drs. Spencer Gibson, Andrew Halayko, Thomas Klonisch).

Thanks to University of Manitoba, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Lung Association, and Research Manitoba for their support.”
