Mamtha Balla: Important information for fellow applicants who didn’t match

Mamtha Balla, Transplant Oncology-ID fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared on X:

“Important information my fellow applicants who didn’t match.

I have been approached by several individuals seeking assistance with their resumes after not matching with their hematology and oncology fellowships this time. I want to remind fellow applicants that the competition for positions in hematology and oncology is becoming increasingly tough. It’s essential to remain resilient, persistent, and dedicated to your goals. If you encounter setbacks, don’t lose hope—view them as stepping stones to success.

For those looking to improve their resumes, here are some suggestions: consider pursuing a one-year fellowship, as there are several options available. This can provide valuable experience and enhance your qualifications.

Please be mindful of the deadlines and reach out to the coordinator with your personalized CV and letter of request. I believe that you can succeed!

Here are some fellowship options to consider:

1. Leukemia Fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC)
2. Lymphoma Fellowship at MDACC
3. Emergency Oncology Fellowship at MDACC
4. Onco Hospitalist Fellowship at MDACC
5. Onco Hospitalist Fellowship at UIC Peoria
6. Onco Genetics Fellowship at GHSU, Augusta
7. Investigational Therapeutics Fellowships at Cleveland Clinic Florida (CCF)
8. Investigational Therapeutics Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Florida
9. Palliative Care Fellowships

I have also heard about some individuals pursuing geriatric fellowships, which can relate to geriatric oncology fellowships. These are only few.. I am sure there are many available please do your own research!!

Additionally, working as an Onco Hospitalist or a multiple myeloma hospitalist can help strengthen your resume and expand your network. Or even as a postdoc under physician scientist of your field of interest will help a lot!

Don’t lose hope! Believe in yourself and keep moving forward! Good luck to all!

*Please note that I have no affiliations with the fellowships mentioned above; I am simply sharing this information to help my fellowapplicants!!! Please do your own diligent research..

Last but not least!! TODAY should be ur day to start working for ur next yr application, not one month before ur application.”
