Loay Kassem: Breast cancer is not treated the same way around the world
Loay Kassem, Assistant Professor of Clinical Oncology at Kasr AlAiny School of Medicine, Cairo University, shared a recent post on LinkedIn:
“Breast cancer is not treated the same way around the world.
That is why we can’t apply the data from clinical trials directly in our clinics. We need one more step to better understand the evidence.
This is where real-world data is needed.
In this study, we collected data from 17 cancer centers from 9 Arab countries about triple-negative breast cancers.
- How do they present?
- How are they treated?
- And how do they respond?
I was honored to present the findings from the TRIPOLI study in SABCS 2024 three weeks ago where we had some interesting results.
TNBC patients in our region are younger and present with more advanced stages and are less likely to be treated with neoadjuvant therapy including carboplatin and immunotherapy.
I would like to thank the great group of experts in the region that made this piece of work possible led by my dear professor Hamdy Azim.
Special thanks to the great efforts by Bernadette Pöllinger, Hesham El Ghazaly, Heba M. ELzawahry, Maja Velkovski-Rouyer, Hikmat Abdel-Razeq, Suad Alkharosi, Salah Fayaz, Manal Moawad, Alaa Kandil, Rasha Aboelhassan, Pari Shahrezaei, Christine König, Nassib Neaimeh, Jean-Marc Naboltz, Marwan Ghosn, Ahmad Saadeddin, Huda Alabdulkarim, Hassan Errihani, Tahseen Alrubai, Salha Bujassoum Albader, Nashwa Abdelraouf, Nagi El Saghir and Mohamed El Leithy.”
