Lenneke Schrier: Princess Máxima Center visits partners in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic
“By working together with international partners, the Princess Máxima Center aims to strenghten care and research in the Netherlands and worldwide.
Our teams at the department Máxima International support international partner hospitals to develop into strong pediatric oncology centers, in different regions of the world.
Collaborative efforts in focus areas incl care, data, research, training and advocacy contribute to a more effective realization of our mission, for children with cancer in the Netherlands and abroad.
Last week, one of our teams visited two partner hospitals in Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, two countries with a relatively young population (approx. 40% children) and young specialty of pediatric oncology.
During this visit, we met with dedicated and hardworking teams which have the goal to further improve the survival and quality of life of children with cancer. Various meetings were held with leadership and important stakeholders such as the Kyrzyg Minister of Health and WHO (Aliina Altymysheva).
Dr. Djamila Polatova, General Director of the Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, shared her plans to achieve the center’s mission to deliver innovative patient care. Dr. Sultan Stambekov, head of the Pediatric Oncology Department of the National Center of Childhood and Maternity in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, showed us what he and his team have done to make a significant impact and their short- and long-term plans.
Based on this visit and a more in-depth assessment, we will discuss in which areas we can collaborate. We are looking forward to it!”
