Tracey O’Brien: I’m proud to share that the Cancer Institute NSW is one of the three finalists for the Outstanding Contribution to Cancer Control Award 2023 in the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) organisation category.

Tracey O’Brien, the Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute New South Wales, recently shared on LinkedIn:

“I’m proud to share that the Cancer Institute NSW is one of the three finalists for the Outstanding Contribution to Cancer Control Award 2023 in the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) organisation category.

This nomination is a global recognition of the Institute’s outstanding leadership of the eviQ program, an internationally acclaimed online resource delivering more than 1,100 evidence-based cancer treatment protocols, guidelines, and recommendations to healthcare professionals from around the world.

Visited more than 100,000 times a month by health professionals from 218 countries, eviQ ensures people with cancer – regardless of where they are being treated – receive consistent and best-practice cancer care. eviQ’s success is centered on the program’s partnership with clinical experts working at the frontline of care. Their advice, support, and expertise are key to keeping people safe and supported.

Working hand in hand with clinicians is key to the work of the Institute; NSW’s dedicated cancer control agency. Highly successful programs like Reporting for Better Cancer Outcomes, a state-wide quality improvement program, and Patient Reported Measures, where patient feedback is delivered to cancer teams in real-time, would be impossible without the guidance of clinical teams working in our hospitals and health settings.

Unfortunately, cancer is still the leading cause of death by disease for children and adults in NSW, accounting for almost a third of all deaths in NSW. By continuing to listen, engage, and work with cancer professionals, consumers, and community, we hope to improve the experience for people with cancer and ultimately reduce the immediate and long-lasting impacts of this devastating disease.

A sincere thank you and congratulations to the eviQ team at the Cancer Institute NSW, in particular Robyn Ward, eviQ’s founder and Program Director, and Shelley Rushton GAICD who superbly leads the program on behalf of the Institute.

Find out more about eviQ and the work of the Cancer Institute NSW at cancer.nsw.gov.au or eviq.org.au.”
