“Breast cancer affects us all deeply. In 2020, 2.3 million women faced this diagnosis, each representing a unique story. But these stories have a different ending depending on where you live.
In LMICs, late diagnoses make survival a distant hope, with rates varying from 66% in India to 40% in South Africa. On the other hand, in high-income countries the survival rates exceed 90%.
That’s where the World Health Organization’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative comes in, with an ambitious goal: to reduce breast cancer cases by 2.5% annually. Now a powerful collaboration between City Cancer Challenge and WHO is translating this vision into real action: we’ll use evidence-based approaches to health system strengthening to illustrate how countries can build capacity, increase access and empower women.
