Bente Mikkelsen: Honored to be speaking on how “Women’s cancers act as a tracer of health equity towards health for all and Universal Health Coverage”
In a tweet by Bente Mikkelsen, Head, Secretariat at WHO Global Coordination Mechanism (GCM/NCD), it was stated:
“Honored to be speaking on how “Women’s cancers act as a tracer of health equity towards health for all and Universal Health Coverage” as part of the Health Working Group during the APEC – Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation policy dialogue on gender and health equity. Women’s cancer burden is significant, affecting all communities globally, and inter-generationally.
World Health Organization has launched three integrated initiatives focused on women’s and children’s cancer: Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative, Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, Global Breast Cancer Initiative. Alongside these pro-equity cancer strategies are the WHO Best Buys: priority interventions that show a return on investment for prevention and treatment of NCDs.
Fighting cancer is fighting inequity and will also act as a tracer for other health priorities.
Thank you Narong Aphikulvanich, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, Chair, APEC Health Working Group, Michelle McConnell, OGA, DHHS, and Rachel Vogelstein, Senior Advisor, White House Gender Policy Council, US (representing APEC Policy Partnership on Women & the Economy) for this opportunity.”
