Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed: Honored to Speak at the Global Cancer Movement
Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed, Scientific Advisor at the Qatar Cancer Society and is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Honored to Speak at the Global Cancer Movement: Challenging the Status Quo in Colorectal Cancer by OncoDaily.
I am thrilled to share that I had the privilege of speaking at the inaugural Global Cancer Movement event, organized by OncoDaily from December 6-8, 2024.
This virtual event brought together a diverse group of experts, including leading oncologists, researchers, patients, advocates, and key figures from international health organizations, all united in the fight against colorectal cancer.
During my session, titled “Proactive Prevention: Transforming Colon Cancer Outcomes through Risk Reduction and Early Detection,” I emphasized the importance of a proactive approach to altering the trajectory of colon cancer.
By focusing on preventive measures and the critical role of early detection, we can significantly improve patient outcomes and challenge the current understanding and management of colorectal cancer.
Key Highlights from My Presentation:
– Colorectal Cancer Burden in the GCC Region: Using GLOBOCAN 2020 data, I outlined the growing burden of colorectal cancer, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced prevention and screening strategies.
– Risk Modifiers: Socioeconomic factors, gender norms, structural barriers for refugees, and limited access to rural health services were highlighted as critical challenges impacting cancer prevention efforts.
– Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices: I referenced studies showcasing gaps in physician awareness and practices related to colorectal cancer screening in Qatar, underscoring the need for targeted educational programs for healthcare providers.
– Addressing Disparities: I discussed structural and societal barriers, including limited attention to older adults and disparities among internally displaced populations, which hinder access to essential cancer prevention services.
It was inspiring to delve into these topics and discuss solutions that emphasize health equity, cross-sector collaboration, and education. Together, we can confront these challenges and drive meaningful change.
A special thank you to all the participants and organizers for their invaluable insights and contributions. Together, we can stimulate innovation in colorectal cancer care, enhance early detection, and ensure equitable access to treatment for all patients.
Let’s continue to collaborate, share knowledge, and shape the future of colorectal cancer treatment and advocacy.”
