Yvonne Bombard: Patients have always guided my work
Unity Health Toronto reshared a post by Yvonne Bombard, Canada Research Chair at Unity Health Toronto and a Professor at the University of Toronto, on LinkedIn:
“A research team led by Canada Research Chair and St. Michael’s Hospital Scientist Dr. Yvonne Bombard has received $200,000 in funding from the The Terry Fox Research Institute to design interventions to improve access to cancer genetic screening services for racialized groups in Canada.
Notably, these interventions will be designed in partnership with cancer patients and racialized community members.
“Funding patient-centric research is critical because it allows us to directly address the needs of those affected by cancer,” said Bombard. “Cancer patients, and racialized community members are at the core of this research project as part of the Equity Advisory Board and will help guide the creation of the interventions.
This unique funding opportunity highlights the value that patient partners bring to conducting research that is driven by the very community we aim to serve.”

Quoting Yvonne Bombard‘s post:
“Patients have always guided my work.
Honoured to continue to do the work that I love – BY patients and FOR patients – to advance access and outcomes of Precision Medicine.
As the pace and scale of Precision Oncology grows, it is critical to co-design interventions to address existing disparities in access to cancer genetics care.
Especially pleased to lead this project with great colleagues Aisha Lofters, Nav Persaud, Ambreen Sayani, Harriet Feilotter, Andrea Eisen, and our patient & community partners.
Thank you The Terry Fox Research Institute for the support through this unique ‘Patient Voices’ initiative of Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network.”
