Pat Price: We need to prioritise cancer in the UK
Pat Price, Clinical Oncologist and Chair of Radiotherapy UK Charity, shared a post on LinkedIn by Radiotherapy UK, adding:
“We need to prioritise cancer in the UK, for the lives we will save and for our economic future.
Thank you The Guardian for featuring this stark report from the OECD. Let’s Catch Up With Cancer and create a National Cancer Control Plan to ensure the future of cancer patients in the UK.”
Quoting Radiotherapy UK’s post:
” ‘The ongoing cancer crisis must be one of our top political priorities.’
Professor Pat Price and other cancer experts have commented after the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found poor outcomes for many UK patients diagnosed with two lethal cancers.
Five-year survival rates for lung and colon cancer lag behind other countries.
Professor Price continued:
‘This isn’t just an NHS issue. It’s a national issue in the fullest sense of the term. It’s about saving lives. It’s about safeguarding our health system. It’s about rebuilding productivity.’
While Radiotherapy UK recognises there has been some major progress this year, with a planned £70m investment in radiotherapy machines and a cancer plan on the way, it’s clear that we need to keep the pressure on for those in need of timely treatment right now.”
