Olubukola Ayodele: Honoured to organise the cancer health disparities meeting as the finale event of LGCW
Olubukola Ayodele, Consultant Medical Oncologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What a day!
What an honour to organise the cancer health disparities meeting at the House of Commons at the UK Parliament as the finale event of London Global Cancer Week.
Cancer does not discriminate by race, income, or geography, yet we see significant differences in access to care, treatment outcomes, and survival rates. These disparities, rooted in social, economic, and systemic inequalities, often leave vulnerable communities at a higher risk.
Often, when we talk about inequalities, we focus on low and middle income countries, however, there is intracountry inequalities. One of my major goals when I was putting together this program was to highlight the disparities we see daily in the UK.
Holding this event at the House of Commons, a place of profound influence and change, has been truly significant for us all. I would like to thank and appreciate Dawn Butler MP for sponsoring this meeting hence allowing us to use the House of Commons. Thank you for supporting this cause.
I’d like to thank our steering committee for their hard work and dedication in bringing this day to life. Your planning, vision, and attention to detail ensured that today’s discussions were purposeful and enlightening.
To our inspiring speakers, panelists and Chairs, thank you for sharing your expertise and perspectives. Your insights into the complexities of cancer health disparities have not only informed us but have motivated us to take concrete steps toward reducing these inequalities.
Finally, to everyone who attended today—your engagement, curiosity, and passion are what truly drive the movement to eliminate disparities in cancer care. Each of you play a critical role in making a future where equitable healthcare is not just a goal, but a reality.
To my lovely Sarah Adomah, Georgette Oni and Mercy Ofuya, PhD I see you and appreciate you.
Thank you to our sponsors AstraZeneca, Prostate Cancer UK, Merck Group OncoFlow. Your support and commitment to the cause have allowed us to host this event at such a prestigious venue, ensuring that these essential conversations reach influential ears.”
