Sensory Nerve Exploitation in Breast Cancer Metastasis – NCI Systems Biology

NCI Systems Biology shared a post on X:

Additional info can be found in an National Cancer Institute Cancer Currents Blog about Dr. Padmanaban’s recent nature study showing that Breast Cancers have an unusual way of exploiting sensory nerves to help them spread to other parts of the body.”

Veena Padmanaban is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The Rockefeller University in New York City, where she focuses on cancer biology under the mentorship of Professor Sohail Tavazoie. She has been there since July 2019.

Before this, Veena pursued her Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, starting in 2016. Her research examined the role of epithelial gene expression in breast cancer metastasis, revealing important insights about E-cadherin and its impact on cancer cell behavior.

Her earlier research experiences include roles as a Master’s Researcher at Johns Hopkins and as a Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Throughout her career, Veena has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing our understanding of breast cancer and its complexities.
