Highlights from the CancerCon 2024
CancerCon is the yearly event for individuals affected by adolescent and young adult cancer.
Each year, it unites hundreds of patients, survivors, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare professionals to foster community and link adolescents and young adults with essential resources.
The CancerCon experience includes educational breakout sessions, group discussions, networking opportunities, a packed exhibit hall, and lots of social activities.
This year the CancerCon took place from August 16th-18th in Austin, Texas, USA.
Doctors and Professionals shared their insights on social media:
Katie Coleman, President of the Chromophobe and Oncocytic Tumor Alliance, shared on X:
“One of the most common things I heard this weekend at CancerCon was ‘I wish I’d known about this sooner.’
There are few things more healing than knowing you’re not alone. In my opinion, one of the most underutilized tools in patient care is empowering connections to organizations, communities, and others with shared experiences.
I’ve seen this shifting in kidney cancer, with more patients being connected to resources, and it makes me so happy to see.
Such a great weekend, filled with incredible conversations. Video in my previous post for anyone looking for additional info.”
“This weekend, Leia’s Kids Foundation had the honor of attending Cancer Con with Stupid Cancer.
It was incredible to see the AYA community come together, uniting and addressing our needs in the fight against cancer.
Feeling inspired by the strength and solidarity shared among us!”
Alique Topalian, Research Scientist at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“Sitting at the airport reflecting on this past weekend at Stupid Cancer, CancerCon2024.
While every year is great- this year was truly something special. It is my favorite conference I attend every year.
The connections and relationships built in this environment can truly not be experienced anywhere else. I hate this disease, but I am so incredibly thankful for the people it has brought into my life-especially Veronika Panagiotou, Elissa Baldwin, Samantha Siegel, and Tricia Hernandez (she/her/hers)!
As discussed today in the keynote- sometimes you need to break to overcome and get to the good stuff.
This group of AYA cancer survivors and the providers, researchers, and non-profit professionals who support them are so passionate and welcoming.
Thank you all for lifting me up, supporting me, and lighting a new fire to continue on with this good work. Goodbye until next year my dear friends! I will see you all in Washington.”
