Pediatric Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) International Meeting
Diffuse Midline Gliomas (DMG) are rare, but aggressive brain tumors in children and adolescents. Unfortunately, their grim prognosis has not changed significantly in the last few decades. In the last years, our understanding of this family of tumors and its molecular hallmarks have opened new avenues for pre-clinical research that are translating into novel early phase clinical trials. Additionally, when considering new treatments for patients with brain tumors, it is not only important to identify good new drug candidates, but also make sure the medication arrives to the target. The blood brain barrier is a protective structure that surrounds our entire brain and spine, and is an obstacle to most current drugs. Therefore, new ways of crossing this effective structure is also critical in order to achieve better results.
To explore some of these topics, a meeting will be held in Barcelona the 16 and 17 October of 2023. It will bring together Spanish and PNOC (Pacific Pediatric Neuro Oncology Consortium) physicians and scientist experts in this field. Our main aim is to update our current understanding of DMG in order to identify tumor vulnerabilities that will eventually translate into more efficacious therapies.
