“I had the opportunity during my tour of Elekta Australia to visit the Olivia Newton- John Cancer Centre, part of Austin Health in Melbourne. Elekta demonstrates its technological edge in precision radiation therapy with the MR Linac Unity, three VersaHD machines heavily used in stereotactic mode and the Gamma KnifeIcon for advanced, precise neuro radiosurgery and oncology SRS.
The significance of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre at Austin Health goes beyond its namesake, an artist who contributed greatly to both the arts and cancer awareness through her personal experience and foundation. It lies in the combination of advanced clinical cancer treatment and cutting-edge clinical research.
In terms of patient workflow, they use Elekta One Smart Flow, which maps and monitors the patient journey in real-time, providing a wealth of curated data for analytics and research in one integrated environment.
I want to thank Dr Nigel Anderson, the director of the Radiation Oncology Department, who spent time with me and my colleagues Marcolee the Elekta SVP for Asia Pacific and Japan, Michael Wawrzyniak, General Manager of Elekta ANZ, and Saul Williams, the Sales Account Manager for Australia. Nigel Anderson detailed the department’s workflow, which treats more than 1,300 patients a year. He described the advanced cases they handle and the methodology of triaging between different types of technology.
This facility exemplifies efficiency and excellence in cancer care. It also highlights a successful model of partnership between Elekta and state public health institutions in mature markets—models that should be scaled and duplicated.”
