“Ahead of ASCO next week, I’ve set out some thoughts in Euractiv about the urgent need to address cancer in Europe and how, as we approach EU and national elections, political leaders have a critical opportunity to renew their commitment to cancer as a health priority.
The discovery and innovation on display at ASCO will, no doubt, push the boundaries of science beyond what we once thought possible and I’m hugely excited to join AstraZeneca colleagues and the wider cancer community to hear all about it. But my job, and the mission of everyone I work with in the Europe-Canada region, is to make these advances in science a reality in clinical practice within health systems, so that patients can ultimately benefit. There are significant and complex challenges towards achieving this, but also many positive opportunities to redefine cancer care now and into the future.
Prioritising early cancer detection, leveraging diagnostic technology to unleash the benefits of precision medicine, and addressing unequal and untimely access to quality care and the latest innovations are three vital areas of focus. ”
