Pat Garcia-Gonzalez: I have a dream

Pat Garcia-Gonzalez, Chief Executive Officer at The Max Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I have a dream. I have a dream that when a new cancer medicine is developed, people around the world who need it urgently can have access to it regardless of geography.

Many said it was not possible… In fact, first they said it was not needed, that cancer is not a problem in LMICs, but data showed the contrary. So then they said it was not possible to bring innovative drugs to these regions. And we showed them that we can; The Max Foundation has developed and successfully implemented for the past 20 years a safe and controlled pathway for humanitarian access to cancer treatment. At the end, it just takes courageous leadership, putting words into actions, and doing the right thing.

In less than one year after approval of BeiGene‘s zanubrutinib, people living with CLL in Nepal and Armenia today have access to this medicine. While we cannot fix all the problems of the world, today we can alleviate unnecessary suffering and premature death for many, and because we can, we must.”
