The WHO-ESMO Collaboration Plan for 2024-2026 has identified three key areas of intervention

ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, made the following post on LinkedIn:

“The WHO-ESMO Collaboration Plan for 2024-2026 has identified three key areas of intervention. The plan is a technical collaboration focusing on evidence-based activities with tangible deliverables in the given period, aimed at improving global Cancer Care.

The three priority areas are as follows:

  • Promoting equitable access to essential cancer medicines and technologies
  • Developing and implementing policies and strategies for global cancer control
  • Strengthening the Oncology Workforce through supportive policies and training

ESMO President Andrés Cervantes and Raffaella Casolino, ESMO Member, WHO Cancer Control team cancer expert, clearly describe each and every element of such plan, highlighting the value of the collaboration between the two organisations.

The plan is the result of long-standing mutual trust between the WHO and ESMO, the latter being recently granted the renewal of its status as “non-State actor in official relations with WHO”, a privilege conferred upon entities which are not allied to any particular country or state like non-governmental organisations, but have a recognised influence at an international level to drive change.
