Debra Patt: The Augmented Oncologist

Debra Patt, Chair of AI Task Force at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Medical Director of Public Policy at The US Oncology Network, and President of Community Oncology Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper she co-authored with colleagues published in JAMA Oncology:

“Excited to share ‘The Augmented Oncologist,’ an article looking at where we are and forecasting where we are going, featured in JAMA Oncology by Samyukta Mullangi, Kanan Shah, and myself.

This piece explores the critical theme of resilience in oncology and how innovative practices driven by new technologies will continue to shape our future. The drive to evolve is palpable, especially in community oncology, where frontline practices are actively integrating clinical decision support, digital health, and AI to improve patient outcomes and practice efficiencies.

As President of Community Oncology Alliance, I witness this momentum firsthand across practices nationwide. We are constantly exchanging ideas on digital health transformation, and I look forward to my colleagues sharing many of these insights at our upcoming annual conference on April 28-29, 2026.

I am deeply grateful to collaborate with forward-thinking leaders at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Association of Cancer Care Centers on their AI task forces, as well as my dedicated team at Texas Oncology and The US Oncology Network, who are leading these initiatives in clinical practice.

Additionally, my friends and thought leaders at Tensor Black continue to inspire and share innovative ideas through the healthcare ecosystem.

Together, we’re shaping the future of oncology – resilient, innovative, and patient-centered.
