Francesco Schettini Wins University of Padua Award 2025 for Breast Cancer Research

Francesco Schettini, Physician scientist at the Breast Unit of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and IDIBAPS, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today I was noticed that I have been selected as the winner of the University of Padua Award 2025 Edition! I didn’t see this coming!

I am extremely honoured and truly grateful to the Scientific Committee of this year’s Meet the Professor – Advanced International Breast Cancer Course for selecting me and my study (doi: 10.1016/j.esmoop.2024.103989) for this prestigious recognition. THANK YOU Maria Vittoria Dieci, StephenJohnstonSibylle Loibl, Sandra M. Swain, Fedro A Peccatori, Eleuterios Mamounas, Jacek Jassem, Bettina Borisch, D Hesham Ahmed Gaballa, Philip Poortmans,Aleix Prat, Valentina Guarneri and Pier Franco Conte.

This award and this scientific course mean a lot to me. At the Meet the Professor – Advanced International Breast Cancer Course in 2018, I met my future mentor, Aleix Prat for the very first time. Back then, I was just a young and shy first-year PhD student, preparing to leave Italy for what I thought would be only a short research stay at Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) in Barcelona. Needless to say, that meeting marked the beginning of a journey that has radically transformed my life, both personally and professionally.

This award is also deeply meaningful because I was present when my friend Matteo Lambertini received it. Matteo has been an inspiration to me ever since our days as young residents in Naples and Genova, respectively, finding our way through the Gruppo Italiano Mammella (GIM) and the breast cancer research field. (You didn’t know Matte? Now you do!).”
