Douglas Flora: Grateful to work in a place that always puts people first
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“‘The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.’ — Oscar Wilde
Leadership 101, beautifully demonstrated by my Senior Leaders at St. Elizabeth Physicians. Most of you know I’ve been dealing with a painful herniated disc (seeing the surgeon Tuesday). Last week, seeing me visibly struggling through an Exec Meeting, my CEO and others insisted I go home. A few days later, this wonderful get-well package with a kind card and football-day soup arrived. I’m so grateful to work in a place that always puts people first.
Oscar Wilde had it right. This should be front of mind for any of us that are privileged enough to lead someone else in our roles. Thoughful gestures and authentic concern for our teams mean the world to company culture.
It’s been a very challenging last few weeks for me, hurting every day, not sleeping. I wasn’t anywhere near at my best over the last few weeks, but tomorrow’s a new start. Thanks to MY leadership team for reminding me what it looks like when good leaders get it right.”
