Heidi Floyd: As October begins, please remember that breast cancer isn’t just one face, one kind of person, one gender, one size. We are myriad. And we are unashamed.

Heidi Floyd: As October begins, please remember that breast cancer isn’t just one face, one kind of person, one gender, one size. We are myriad. And we are unashamed.

Heidi Floyd, , recently shared on LinkedIn:

“Years ago, I was a keynote speaker at a breast cancer event and was introduced to Ron, and he was fabulous.

We marveled at the fact that our diagnoses and surgeries happened at the exact same date and time, hundreds of miles apart.

Ron stuck me as one of the rare people who had this disease but had zero embarrassment or shame- quite the opposite. He wore pink ribbon *everything* and talked openly about side effects, fear, surgery, you name it.

Over the years, he was an endless stream of support and encouragement to me. Never missed a post on social media, always told me he was cheering me on, and even commented on my kiddos’ birthdays.

When my cancer reoccurred, his did as well. Same date. We both had more surgery, again same date just miles apart.

Ron left us this past week. He didn’t “lose his battle” with breast cancer – a ridiculous term. He won everything. Ron educated us, reminded us to laugh, empowered us, and showed us how to be unashamed of the things life hands us…and how to really wear a pink hat the right way.

As October begins, please remember that breast cancer isn’t just one face, one kind of person, one gender, one size. We are myriad.

And we are unashamed.”
