Same-day Discharge After Lung Cancer Surgery? – Lung Cancer Europe
Lung Cancer Europe shared a post on LinkedIn about recent paper by Lyndon C. Walsh et al.,:
“Same-day discharge after lung cancer surgery?
The VALUE Trial tested whether people undergoing VATS lung resection – a minimally invasive procedure to remove part of the lung – could safely go home on the same day.
The findings, published in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS), show it’s both safe and feasible for carefully selected patients.
For those living with lung cancer, this can mean more than just hospital efficiency. In LuCE’s 5th Report, 6 in 10 respondents said family life was heavily affected by lung cancer. Recovering at home sooner can help reduce time away from loved ones and ease the mental and emotional strain of treatment.
Congratulations to Jonathan Spicer, McGill University, Filippo Tommaso Gallina, Lyndon Walsh and Merav Rokah on research that could influence how surgical recovery is managed.”
