“July is sarcoma awareness month!
<<Sarcoma>> is the name of a diverse group of cancers that grow as solid masses or tumors in the bone and other connective tissues of the body.
Sarcoma in children tends to grow aggressively and can be difficult to treat.
Each year in Australia 90 children and adolescents are diagnosed with sarcoma, and sadly the rate of survival for those diagnosed with high-risk sarcoma is only 50%.
This is why the need for new, more effective therapies is nothing short of urgent.
But progress IS being made.
To recognize the importance of Sarcoma Awareness Month, the Children’s Cancer Institute will be sharing updates on some of the progress our researchers have been making in the fight against sarcoma.
We’ll also be sharing some stories of families whose lives were forever changed by a sarcoma diagnosis.
