Norman Ng: A New Chapter in Hong Kong’s Drug Approval

Norman Ng, Director of Patient Advocacy and Public Affairs of Healthcare Thinkers, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A New Chapter in Hong Kong’s Drug Approval, Helping China’s Innovative Drugs Go Global

At the recent ‘China Pharmaceutical Innovation Dialogue Hong Kong’ exchange meeting held in Shenzhen, Hong Kong once again demonstrated its strategic potential in the field of biomedicine. With the implementation of the ‘1+’ mechanism and the establishment of the Hong Kong Drug and Medical Device Regulatory Centre (CMPR), Hong Kong is gradually becoming a key springboard for China’s innovative drugs to go overseas.

Hong Kong not only has a mature financial market and an international system, but also leverages the policy advantages of ‘one country, two systems’ to create an institutional platform connecting the Mainland and the world. In the first half of this year, 10 biomedical companies have been listed in Hong Kong, raising more than HK$16 billion, indicating that Hong Kong is rapidly becoming a hot spot for innovative drug financing and approval.

For mainland pharmaceutical companies, Hong Kong is no longer just a ‘showcase’, but a real ‘starting point for going overseas’. Through policy innovation and institutional synergy, Hong Kong is accelerating the promotion of ‘Good Medicines Hong Kong Express’, so that more high-quality drugs can benefit patients as soon as possible, and Chinese innovative drugs can shine on the international stage.

Hong Kong is not only a financial center, but also a bridge and promoter of innovation and technology medicines. Let us witness this historical turning point in institutional innovation.

Thanks to Mr. Ma Junyi, who is a director of Hong Kong Hailin and a representative of the China Association for the Promotion of Medicines in Hong Kong, for providing information.”
