Isabel Mestres: A saying in Japan highlights the importance of City Cancer Challenge collaboration with Japanese Government

Isabel Mestres shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Reflection from Tokyo Airport: Where you live shouldn’t determine the care you receive.

Everyone deserves quality cancer care, and we are working hard to shape services at the city level to drive positive change for patients and health systems across the world.

This is not unlike what Japan has achieved over the last 20 years, where cancer care was first addressed in the city of Tokyo and then expanded to the rest of the country.

This ensured that every Japanese citizen could get the same access to care regardless of where they live. We know it works!

There is a saying in Japan: ‘Three heads are better than one.’ This highlights the importance of City Cancer Challenge collaboration with Japanese Government, Institutions and Private Sector —we can’t do it alone.

Thank you Health and Global Policy Institute for bringing us all together! and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Special thank you to C/Can great leader in Asia Chika Kitajima and City Managers Pich Bunthoeun and Derrick Z Chan for all the hard work, passion and commitment.”
