John Robitscher: Even those of us who dedicate our lives to health and wellness are not immune to the perils of disease

Arthur Lodge Kellermann, Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority, shared a post by John Robitscher, CEO of National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, on LinkedIn adding:

“Beautiful, timely and true.”

Quoting John Robitscher’s post:

“As I sit here in the dark composing this message, having just dreamed of my father, Jonas Bondi Robitscher, JD, MD, I reflect on his profound impact on all who knew him.

My father was a man of remarkable intellect and unwavering dedication, spending his life for the rights of the mentally ill and improving the mental health of countless individuals.

It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss that I remember him today, having lost him in 1981 to malignant melanoma at the age of 60 – today, a disease that is often preventable.

Growing up, I was always in awe of my father’s commitment to his work. He was not just a physician, lawyer, and author; he was a healer, a mentor, and a compassionate soul who believed in the power of medicine and law to change lives.

His tireless efforts in mental health and law were driven by a desire to make the world a healthier place for everyone. Reflecting on his life’s noble mission, I am now reminded of the fragile nature of life and the importance of cherishing every moment we have with our loved ones.

My father’s battle with cancer is a stark reminder that even those of us who dedicate our lives to health and wellness are not immune to the perils of disease.

His passing left a void that can never be filled. I often find myself caught up in the demands of daily life, neglecting the simple yet profound act of being present with those I love. My father’s journey taught me that time is the most valuable gift we can give and receive.

To all who read this, I urge you to take a moment to reflect on the relationships that matter most. Cherish the laughter, the shared stories, and the even quiet moments of togetherness.

Make time for those heartfelt conversations where you truly connect.

Let my father’s story be a reminder that life is fleeting, and the bonds we share with our loved ones are what genuinely endure.”
