I assumed my new role as President of Cleveland Clinic London – Rob Lorenz, M.D, F.A.C.S

Cleveland Clinic has been at the forefront of modern medicine since it was founded in 1921. We have more than a century of clinical excellence, camaraderie, and tradition.

On the first of June, I assumed my new role as President of Cleveland Clinic London and Tommaso Falcone handed me the Cleveland Clinic gavel. There were three gavels created upon the founding of Cleveland Clinic for Dr. George Crile, made from the wood of the flagpole from United States Army Base Hospital No. 4, in Rouen, France. At the time, medicine in the U.S. was practiced in an individual, siloed fashion. In the Lakeside unit, our three founders experienced a different kind of medical practice, by acting “as a unit.” They relied on each other’s expertise, and achieved superior outcomes that were generated through teamwork. When they returned to Ohio, they would create a different type of organisation founded on this principle, which continues to deliver results to this day.

Last year alone, Cleveland Clinic saw an extraordinary 3.4M patients at almost 300 different locations, while educating over 2,000 young doctors, and performing more than $400M of research. Since meeting hundreds of caregivers in my first month, one question keeps coming to mind: why are you here at Cleveland Clinic London? The most alluring characteristic of our organisation was then and remains today: teamwork.

Even in the few weeks I’ve been in London, the effect on me of seeing this team in action has truly been electric, and I can’t wait for what’s to come.
