Selwyn Vickers: MSKCC is partnering with NMDP/Be The Match to launch an inspirational campaign, “American Symphony: Become a Lifesaver”

“Today we are proud to announce that Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is partnering with NMDP/Be The Match to launch an inspirational campaign, “American Symphony: Become a Lifesaver,” that encourages people to join the blood stem cell donor registry.

The campaign is inspired by the documentary, “American Symphony,” now streaming on Netflix, which follows Grammy-, Academy Award-, and Golden Globe-winning musician Jon Batiste as he prepares to debut an original composition at Carnegie Hall while his wife, New York Times best-selling author Suleika Jaouad, undergoes a second bone marrow transplant at MSK.

Becoming a donor is an easy way to help save the life of someone with blood cancer or a rare blood disorder. Here at MSK, we have been leaders in bone marrow and blood stem cell transplant treatments and research for more than 50 years, and we see the impact it has on the lives of our patients.

For patients who are ethnically diverse, it is often especially difficult to find a suitable match. That’s why we are working to raise awareness about the urgent need for donors. Along with NMDP/Be the Match CEO Amy Ronneberg, I encourage you to learn more about the campaign and join the registry if you are eligible.”
